New Vikings Stadium Minneapolis

U.S. Bank Stadium has reached another major milestone today as the last of the fixed seats within the building have now been installed.

The drilling of the seats began last year on June 4th. There are over 58,000 fixed seats in total, along with 6,000 retractable seats. The stadium’s total capacity is 66,200. This includes handicap seating and “Club Purple” lounge seating.  As of today, just about 9 months since installation started, all the fixed seats are now in place.

In most cases, seat installation requires each seat to be drilled directly in to the concrete. U.S. Bank Stadium, however, is using a rail system to install the seats. By doing so the seats are able to be installed much faster. This rail system also makes it possible for seats to be moved around or moved closer together to make room for additional seating.

The retractable seats on the north side of the stadium are also something to start getting excited about. These new retractable seats “will allow for the stadium to be reconfigured for other events, including hundreds of high school and college baseball games each year”. “The seats are wider with more legroom and I think event goers will all be pleased”, said MSFA Chair Michele Kelm Helgen. The new stadium will also set a couple of NFL stadium records by having the closest seats from the sideline (only 41 feet), and also the closest turf suites (just 25 feet from the sideline) of any NFL stadium.  Fans will also have plenty of space, as seats range from 19 inches to 22 inches wide and from 33 inches to 35 inches between rows.

“To date, more than 46,000 seats have been secured by fans, while just 4 of the 131 suites remain available.” (Vikings.com)  This means that there’s still some time to purchase your own seat(s) for the upcoming season – just blocks away from The Portland Tower!
