Crews at U.S. Bank Stadium have started rolling out the green turf. The installation began this week and will take 3 or 4 weeks to complete.
The design includes a Norseman logo, purple end zones with white “Vikings” lettering and yard line numbers in “Skol” font (the same font used for the Vikings jerseys).
The field will cover 132,000 square feet. “The playing surface is composed of more than 135 million blades of synthetic turf and more than 5,000 miles of Harmony fiber that weigh 46,000-plus pounds. The fiber could be stretched from Minneapolis to Moritz Boehringer’s hometown of Aalen, Germany with plenty to spare.” – (Vikings.com)
The Vikings are the 5th team in the NFL to play on this type of turf. The Norseman and purple end zones are also interchangeable, meaning that when the stadium hosts events such as concerts, these panels can be replaced by green segments.
Whether U.S. Bank Stadium is hosting a Vikings game, concert or any other type of event – we’re just happy to be only a couple of blocks away from all the action here at the Portland Tower.
