Downtown Minneapolis

Minneapolis Downtown Council released an estimate last Tuesday. According to their studies, the population of Minneapolis

(which included the North Loop, Loring Park and Downtown East neighborhoods) rose from 38,909 in 2015 to approximately 39,960, where it currently stands. That’s a 2.7% increase from last year.

“The Downtown Council released the figures at its 60th anniversary annual meeting Tuesday at the Minneapolis Hilton, which attracted about 1,000 people.

Here are some other figures compiled by the Downtown Council:

  • Downtown has added 8,056 residents since 2006, a 25.2 percent increase.
  • A combined 972 new residential units opened at 4Marq, Latitude 45, The Paxon and Pillsbury A Mill.
  • There are 680 more rental units being built downtown.
  • There is 1.5 million square feet of office space being built, including the new Wells Fargo Towers in Downtown East, the new T3 office building near Target Field and Xcel Energy Inc.’s headquarters on Nicollet Mall.
  • Downtown Class A office space vacancy rate is 11.8 percent.
  • U.S. Bank Stadium is 87 percent complete.
  • The Minneapolis Downtown Council added approximately 90 members in 2015, bringing its total membership to more than 330 organizations.”
