downtown east

Yet another development is in the works within the Downtown East neighborhood near the Portland Tower. Dermot Cowley, the owner of the O’Donovan’s Irish Pub, is preparing to sign a lease for 6,000 square feet in Wells Fargo’s west tower.

The new restaurant will look outward at the Downtown East Commons park. “We’re super excited,” Cowley said. “We think it’s going to be a great location. We are excited to have all those Wells Fargo employees, to take care of them and give them a great spot to hang out.” (Minneapolis Business Journal)

There will be around 275 indoor seats along with another 100 or so seats outside on the patio which will face the park. Cowley states that the project will cost $4 million, which he says is a large investment for a restaurant, but he justifies this investment because he believes that this area will be a very high-profile location.

Cowley, the Irish native, hired Minneapolis-based Shae Design as an architect for this specific project. He wants the restaurant to be completely different than anything that Shae Design has made in he past (which includes award-winning Spoon and Stable and also Eastside). Contrary to what you might think, the menu will not be an Irish menu but rather focus on contemporary American cuisine.
