The eight-level hotel will be called The Elliot, fitting into the Autograph Collection’s practice of naming each hotel differently. In this case, Elliot refers to the Elliot Park neighborhood the hotel will call home.
The Hotel Minneapolis is also part of the 95-hotel Marriott Autograph Collection. Marriott is a bit inconsistent when it comes to classifying the brand, listing it a step below luxury on its website, but referring to it in other marketing materials as a luxury property.
The Elliot hotel will be situated on the corner of Ninth Street and Fifth Avenue, next to what will be Finnegans’ brewhouse. The hotel will be connected to the taproom and a third party will manage an event space above the brewery.
The $175 million project, already under construction, also includes a 17-story, 300-unit residential tower and a 100,000-square-foot Kraus-Anderson headquarters office.
Wilkinson Corp. of Yakima, Wash., is developing the hotel. Coury Hospitality of Tulsa, Okla., will operate The Elliot.
The hotel is designed by Minneapolis-based Elness Swenson Graham Architects, which has done nearly every new downtown hotel in the past couple years.
The project will be completed in phases, Hille said, with the Kraus-Anderson space delivered in fall 2017, the hotel in May 2018 and the residential tower in summer 2018.
