The General Mills Foundation presented the Minneapolis Parks Foundation with a three million dollar “birthday gift to Minneapolis” today. The gift will come in the form of a three-year corporate contribution to the RiverFirst Campaign. The Chairman of the Board and CEO of General Mills, Ken Powell, presented the gift during an event on the Minneapolis Central Riverfront, which was where General Mills got its start 150 years ago.
Powell stressed the importance of the Minneapolis Central Riverfront being the birthplace of the company. He also addressed how the Central Riverfront location laid the foundation of where General Mills and the city of Minneapolis is today.
“The multi-year grant will go toward three RiverFirst signature projects on both sides of the Minneapolis Central and Upper Riverfronts, including a critical trail link and pier at 26th Avenue North, a future riverfront park and beach at Hall’s Island (Scherer site), and Water works, an iconic destination on the Central Riverfront.” (MPLS Parks Foundation)
This is just one of many examples of how the Minneapolis community is so supportive of one another, a big factor in the recent growth and development throughout the city.
